The St. Mary’s community in Oxford, Ohio is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jake Dankert — a devoted husband, loving father, faithful parishioner, and committed volunteer whose presence touched so many lives.
Jake was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where his faith was not simply professed, but lived. Whether serving quietly behind the scenes or participating fully in parish life, Jake embodied dedication, humility, and love for Christ and His Church. He gave generously of his time and heart, strengthening the spiritual fabric of the parish through both action and example.
As a young husband and father, Jake’s family was at the center of his world. He carried his vocation with seriousness and joy, striving to lead with kindness and faith. Friends describe him as steady, compassionate, and deeply committed — someone who could be relied upon without hesitation. His sudden passing leaves an immeasurable void not only within his family, but throughout the entire St. Mary’s community.
One of the most meaningful reflections of Jake’s faithfulness was his weekly Eucharistic Adoration hour — Fridays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. In honor of his devotion, the parish is inviting all who are able to fill the church during that hour this Friday to pray for the repose of his soul. It is a beautiful and fitting tribute: to surround him in prayer during the very time he faithfully spent in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
During this special hour, the community will gather to pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, entrusting Jake to the infinite mercy of God. In our grief, we cling to the hope of the Resurrection and the promise that death does not have the final word.
The St. Mary’s family encourages everyone to spread the word and join in prayer if possible. In coming together, we offer both spiritual support for Jake and comfort to his beloved family.
“May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
